Serves: 15 The recipe for the delicious scones at Avoca!
Ingredients
450g self-raising flour
a pinch of baking powder
a generous pinch of salt
50g caster sugar
110g unsalted butter, diced
1 egg lightly beaten
50ml double cream
200ml milk (you may need a little more)
1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water to glaze
Preparation method
1. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt into a bowl and stir in the sugar. Using your fingertips, lightly work in the butter until the mixture resembles dry breadcrumbs. Add the egg, cream and enough milk to moisten. Mix well until it has a soft, doughy texture - but it shouldn't be too moist.
2. Gather the dough into a ball and turn it out on to a floured surface, then roll lightly with a rolling pin to 2.5cm/1 inch thick. Cut out with a round cutter, transfer to a greased baking sheet and brush the tops with the egg glaze. Bake in an oven preheated to 180C/350F/gas mark 4 for 15- 20 minutes or until well browned.
My Review:

today i met with Ms.O'Shea to discuss my project. It went fairly well she wrote down some movies for me to watch about Ireland. We also talked about a singer by the name of Sean O'Shea and that he was going to be in New York to sing. We thought that this was a great opporitunity to ask some questions about the Irish culture. I am not so sure what to ask him yet but ill try to think of some.

Yesterday February 7, 2011
This was the first day that I started my WISE project. I was very excited that I got to meet with my mentor to discuss my project. Ms. O'Shea suggested that I should condense my subject because if I wrote about Irish culture in general, then I would have a 2 hour long presentation. I decided to zone in on the irish dance and music. I have also focused my attention around the pubs which is a center social circle in Ireland.
I am now taking irish step dancing lessons to really experience the Irish dance first hand. This day is my fisrt lesson and I hope to at least have one or two lessons a week.
The time that I am home I am reading up on books about Ireland and watching documentaries. I am now starting a powerpoint!
